Foods That Prevent Herpes Outbreaks?

For people infected with herpes, having an outbreak at some time or another is always a possibility. While herpes outbreaks are typically not serious medical situations and are considered to be nuisance events more than anything, they can be painful and can also be sources of emotional strain. In fact for some people just the possibility of a herpes outbreak can cause significant emotional stress.

Given this there are efforts sometimes made to prevent outbreaks from occurring at all. Apparently some information sources infer or even state outright that eating certain foods will prevent herpes outbreaks from happening. Is this true?

Stated connections between food intake and herpes outbreaks may reflect the role of nutrition on physical health in general. The better one’s diet, the better one’s overall health will tend to be. Following this line of reasoning, good overall health will possibly keep herpes infections and herpes outbreaks in check. This in fact may be true, but could be most relevant as it relates to immune system functioning.

Herpes infection, and herpes simplex infection in particular, is thought to remain permanently within the body and is responded to by body immunity function on a regular basis. If the immune system should be compromised or strained, the herpes virus can react more easily and cause greater numbers of outbreaks. With respect to herpes then body immunity is important and, possibly, body immunity can be enhanced through good nutrition.

Is this the same as saying certain foods will prevent herpes outbreaks? We believe not. There is no particular food or combination of foods that will keep herpes outbreaks from occurring. In fact there is no certain herpes outbreak cause. While there sometimes appears to be causing factors for a herpes outbreak, outbreaks also occur for no apparent reason at all.

Our recommendation is that rather than focusing on food for herpes outbreaks, instead find an effective herpes treatment and use it whenever an outbreak should occur.
